I am looking at a 2007 Mustang GT California Special Convertible.
Anyone have a good idea on what the value would be? I know a regular Gt goes for around $9,000 to $10,000. It has about 50k miles on it. What would you pay?
I feel they are asking a little too much for it just for the California Special badging.
Also I have never owned a Mustang. Anything I should look out for while inspecting it?
Thanks

My guess would be around 12-14K would be a fair price, but note that is just a ball park guess as I haven't seen the car in person or any pics and don't know anything about it other than you saying a 2007 CS Convertible with 50K miles. This is based on looking at my local market for 05-09 Mustang GT's are selling for around 7-9K with over 100K miles and a few in the 20,000-70,000 mile range listed for 12-20K. I imagine they will all sell for around the 12-14K I am giving you.
I will say though as we get closer and closer to winter Mustang prices and especially convertible prices head lower by the day.
Also just curious why a CS? They are about the same as a regular GT just more CATS and a little different striping if I recall correctly. Right?

It had an original price of 18k and went down to 14k. Well the only real reason on the CS is that is all that is available. It is mostly just visual differences from the regular GT. Like some badging and side scoops and hood scoop and diffuser and splitter.
I am just looking for a fun second car and two of my top conditions are a V8 and Convertible. And this happens to be the only one available now.

maybe I over paid but i bought a very clean 07 Gt Vert with 50K miles (5spd) for $15,900. It was very clean and in perfect running condition. Always stored inside and only used on nice days. 100% stock when I got it. Most in my area were 14-19K for a low mile 5spd from 2005-2009.

Wow 18 to 14? That is quite the drop. Is this a dealer or PP listing? I think 14 is a good place to be. After all that is in my 12-14 range I stated. The range was for regular GT's for the most part so a little more for a CS I could see it. If dealer go in with 13-13,500 OTD offer and they should let it go, but if not I would bet a good penny they would do 14K OTD. If PP offer 13K and let them sit as if they dropped that much they know WINTER is coming and selling a convertible in the winter is next to impossible especially PP.

Yeah 15,900 is a little up there, but for the PERFECT car I think you did alright if it needed nothing and runs/drives perfect. Sure I think the 12-14K would have been a better deal, but for a clean and perfect running car sometimes you have to pay more. Where I would have had a issue is a 2010 would have been around 16-17K and then of course the 2011+ 5.0's with around 80,000 miles start showing up in the winter months for 18-20K.

Yeah this is at a dealer. I was thinking with the 4k drop they priced it way high hoping for a bite? I think they have had it since from about May? It seems in good condition for the most part? The side scoop on the passenger side had been scraped and the black plastic is showing through and the front bumper looks a little odd. It had the look on the paint like it bumped something pretty good? The paint for the center third on the top and front an under has a spider web appearance to it. Kind of like someone hit a wall a little bit? But the weird thing is on the front surface there is zero indication of an impact. No scratching at all on the front.
I was thinking of offering 11k cash for it?

So it is not in perfect condition to say the least... Clean Carfax and/or AutoCheck?
I doubt the dealer will even respond with a offer as low as 11K on at 14K asking price. Especially considering how much they have already drop the price from original 18K asking price. I would bet they have about 12-13K in the car. Personally I think you should go in and offer around 12,500 and hope to get out for around 13-13,500 OTD.

Yeah the autocheck looked good.
Thanks for the advice. I will go in for a second test drive and hash out something with them.
As stated before I have never owned or been around mustangs at all. Anything I should visually check out or listen for on the next test drive that could indicate problems specific to mustang problems?
Thanks for all your help

There is a lot to look for. Do a quick forum search and you will find more than enough to keep you busy the rest of the night. I don't want to list anything off and miss anything as there is lots to look for. Don't let that statement scare you away though as the 4.6's are said to be bullet proof if they are taken care of.

Mine was also a vert so that adds some to the price as well. Other than a few rock chips here and there it?s has no blemishes. Not a single dent or scratch. It was definitely taken care of.
In my area they are 2-3k more the. Other places. That?s just our market here. 2011 and up start around 21-22k with about 70k.

Yeah convertible bought in the summer will bring a good bit more money as well.
Just curious what part of the country are you in?

run it through some of the on-line value tools such as edmunds, consumer reports, true car, blue book, black book . . . . they have a much better idea of the value of cars than anyone on this board does, well myself at least

Not the worst suggestion, but not the best either. Hope I done't offend you with saying that.
Online book values are lucky guess if that. The older the car is the less accurate. I mean for instance it will tell you a 99-04 Mustang GT with under 100,000 miles is worth around 5K, but from experience good luck finding one for that unless you want it wreaked or in horrible condition.
Also for 2005-2009 the values are a little off as well.
For 2011-2014 the values start to get more in line.
For 2015+ they are much closer to what to actually expect.
Other note I don't know if many or any have a C/S option. Most specialty options are hard to price online.
Just my opinion and .02 from the many years of experience Mustang shopping and the purchase of 10 Mustangs so far and a few other brand of cars over the years...

Congrats. What kind of deal you end up with if you don't mind telling. I ask since we discussed values and offers with you.

None taken -- I like to look at all of them and use them as a starting point; usually there is a fairly broad range of prices; there is no right answer. If you are buying, you can pick the lowest one and use that to justify a low offer; if selling you can try to work toward the higher end of the range. I haven't looked at very high mileage vehicles to compare; the value that I get for my 2010 GT is a lot lower than I would like but it is probably realistic for what I could actually get for it.
Back to the OP -- congratulations, nice looking car, enjoy!
